Starting off as an artist making holograms in the 1980s, Steve Weinstock realized that the manipulation of light had the power to give life to static images and objects. Working with glass became a way to follow that fascination out of the virtual space of holographic images into the physical world. Manipulating the shape, texture, thickness and content of glass created pieces that offered something new to see with every encounter. Working with functional glass artist Michael Murphy, Weinstock discovered that art made with glass also had the benefit of being something more than just an object to look at. Together they started Alchemy Glass & Light with the mission to create uniquepieces that put artistry in the fixtures and furnishings that surround us inour daily life. Though Alchemy’s pieces range from lighting to tableware to mirrors, it is Alchemy’s unique take on the bathroom sink that led Weinstock to focus on using glass to create “Art for the Bath.” Each sink Weinstock makes is a unique piece, making any bathroom it goes into, a one-of-a-kind space.
