Beach Yard Sunset Magazine with 10 Beach Garden Ideas, Most of the Incredible and Attractive

This article has garden ideas for each of the ten climate types. The beach garden ideas will be discussed in detail as well as suggest alternative plants that would do well in these low-maintenance and breezy conditions.”

This is a continuation from my last blog post, “Septuagenarian Q & A: Your Top 10 Questions Answered”, where I answered questions about the top 10 things that were on your mind over at the age of 70. If you have a question about what it’s like to live 75+ years old and still semi-healthy and active, this is probably it!

The first question asked was what are some things which keep you entertained. One of my favorite things to do is to read. I read so many books and magazines, but it’s hard to pick a favorite. Some of the things I’ve read are The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, The Healing of America by Deepak Chopra and his first wife, a book on chess by Bobby Fischer and another on chess (The Staunton Chess Club) by George Koltanowski.

I’ve also recently purchased a book on string theory and even started playing with the online version of it – taking the online test every day to see how I’m doing. It seems that there are two versions: one for adults and one for children.

My Latest Book: http://amzn.to/2sNt7sO

I’ve read many books on photography and nature, as well as books about how to play the guitar. For example, I recently read Chords in Motion, by Harvey Vinson, a fantastic book on playing rhythm guitar.

Another book is called How To Play Fingerstyle Guitar by Mark Hanson. I found this method far easier than the first one and it’s made a huge difference in my playing ability. It’s not difficult to play fingerstyle if you take it step-by-step like Mark Hanson does in his book.

Thinking back over my life and what truly brings me joy is practicing meditation. There is nothing in this world that gives me more peace. Even when I get up at 3 or 4am and go down to the beach with my camera, it’s the journey and the beauty of nature which I meditate on as I walk. It may sound silly, but being in nature is so healing and calming for me.

Another thing is reading a book with a cup of coffee or even better, a glass of wine.

I still play chess every day with my wife, Sue. We play on our computer program and then we take a break after an hour to watch Netflix (a new habit!).

Next, the writer asked me what book would I recommend. Well, I love to read so many books that it’s impossible to pick just one. But let’s say you have to live on a deserted island for one year and all you could take would be one book, then I might recommend either The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver or The Healing of America by Deepak Chopra and his first wife, a book on chess by Bobby Fischer and another on chess (The Staunton Chess Club) by George Koltanowski.

Q: How to Make Beach Garden?

A: Look for plants and flowers that are native to your area. That way you’ll know that they will thrive in your climate. For example, look up the plants which grow well at the beach in your region, then choose the ones which fit in with the style of your home or garden.

First, my wife and I tried to grow the grass. We even bought a bag of soil and fertilizer to start it off. But we gave up after a few weeks because it just wouldn’t grow! Instead we planted an Australian tree called a Coolabah tree (Eucalyptus coolabah).

Detailed Instructions:

  • Step 1: Dig a hole
This is the most important step. Dig a hole in the ground with your shovel, then fill it with sand until it’s almost full. But not all the way to full!
  • Step 2: Plant the tree in sand
Put one or two pieces of newspaper into the hole and make sure that you don’t cover up the trunk completely. Allow space for water to go down and get absorbed by both sides of the newspaper. This is so that it won’t be too hard to remove the tree if necessary (you can transplant it when you are ready). And remember, watering is critical when growing at sea level because of evaporation.
  • Step 3: Water the tree with a hose
Water the tree and move the sand around gently with your shovel until it’s OK. Wait for a few days, then repeat this step. Then, every week or two you can water it again. Once the roots begin to grow, you can start watering it less often.
  • Step 4: Remove part of the paper and add soil
Remove some of the newspaper, add more soil and tighten up that area. Repeat this step until most of the newspaper is gone. Then remove all but a thin layer of newspaper so that your leaves and branches don’t feel too rough when they rub up against them (this will help your leaves last longer).
  • Step 5: Water the tree again
Water the tree and move the sand around gently with your shovel until it’s OK. Wait for a few days, then repeat this step. Then, every week or two you can water it again. Once the roots begin to grow, you can start watering it less often.
  • Step 6: Provide shade
If you are growing in full sun and it’s too hot for you, consider including some shading into your design. You could add a wooden frame or even chicken wire or nylon mesh over your planting area to create a shadow over the branches of the plant (like what is done with fruit trees).
  • Step 7: Add a clay pot or tray to collect rainwater
Water is critical when growing at sea level because of evaporation. You could use a ceramic pot that you can cover with plastic. If you have a larger area, then you might consider using something like a large tray.
  • Step 8: Plant your flowers
Make sure there are enough plants for both your bouquets as well as to line the edges of your garden bed. You’ll want some small things, like baby’s breath or confetti flower (chrysanthemum) and also big, bright-colored flowers that will draw attention such as zinnias or wild cosmos flowers (Cosmos bipinnatus).
  • Step 9: Plant your vegetables
We planted cucumbers, eggplant, peppers and more. You can also plant your tomatoes and potatoes in the ground if you have enough space. We found great success with crookneck squash.
  • Step 10: Consider adding a sitting area
You could add a bench or something like that to sit while you enjoy the beauty of your garden bed… either alone or with friends and family.

Q: How Many Ways to Make Beach Garden?

A: You can make many types of beach gardens, but my favorite is to use a mixture of succulent plants and hardy plants.

Succulents are small and easily movable, so they don’t use up too much space. Plus, they are very resilient. They can take a lot of the heat that you get near the beach in late summer and the sand doesn’t weigh them down at all. You can even lay them down and they will still grow well! (Don’t worry, they’ll grow back if you lay them on their sides.

Q: How Much Time for Make Beach Garden?

A: Great question. My answer is that you can make beach garden any time of the year, but it will take longer if you wait until summertime when they’re ready to grow. It could also be a little easier if you placed your plants in containers outside first as they’ll be in the shade (if you do it during winter months). Shorter evenings and days do help, too. But don’t worry if your plant’s leaves start turning yellow or brown – it’s perfectly normal! Consider the fact that succulents aren’t like most plants which need to have their leaves grown out all season.

Q: How Long Beach Garden to Grow?

A: Beach garden usually takes 1-3 months. If you live in a cold region, it would take longer. If you grow your garden in a container first and then transfer it to the ground later, then it should take less time. Don’t worry if the leaves of your beach plants seem brown or yellow a couple of months after planting in ground; that’s totally normal! Be patient and watch them grow again.

Q: What is Island Garden?

A: It’s similar to a beach garden, but it is made on an island, not in the ocean. You can plant your island garden anywhere you want – around a pool or in a park. There are many types of plants that can be used and there are many examples of island gardens which you can visit on the internet. You can even make your own version at home with a few succulents and small plants.

Q: What is Ocean Garden?

A: That’s a great question! Actually, it’s a very similar garden to beach garden, except that your plants are planted in containers and by the edge of water instead of the ocean. If you don’t have access to the ocean, then you can use a pond or pool around your house. As long as there is enough water for your plants to grow, then you are all set.

Q: What is the Biggest Difference Between Island Garden and Beach Garden?

A: The biggest difference between beach garden and island garden if that the latter is placed near an actual island instead of the beach sand. It also uses less water because it gets some from rain.

Q: Where to Place Beach Garden?

A: Beach garden doesn’t have to be put in the ocean. You can plant your plants at the beach, or even around a park or pool. If you live near a lake then that is another great place for beach garden. Just make sure that there is enough water for your plants to grow and that you’ve arranged for shade from the sun with something like a tree or similar things. (You can also use a pot on earth instead of sand if you want, but don’t do it when it’s cold.)

Q: Can Beach Garden Grow Under the Shade?

A: No, it can’t. You need sun for it to grow in the first place, and you don’t have any shade to have it get that sunlight. In fact, there are some plants that are native to UK which will grow under the shade. But succulents aren’t like that. They need light as well as water, but they don’t require rain (if you live in a dry place).

Q: Does Ocean Garden Need Water?

A: Ocean Garden doesn’t need water all of the time (unless you want underwater garden). It can even survive a drought in some situations where your beach garden might be destroyed by drought.

Q: Is Beach Garden Better Than Ocean Garden?

A: There are many types of garden, so it is difficult to say which one is the best. But I think that beach garden is better because you can grow more plants there. If you have access to your pool then that would be perfect for a nice ocean garden. And if you live near an island, then your island garden might be very nice, too.

Q: Why Plants Need Sunlight?

A: They need sunlight because it is the energy of the sun which allows plants to grow. Without that energy, your plant’s leaves would die or be killed by other things in nature.

Q: Can Beach Garden Blends with Landscape?

A: Beach garden can blend with a landscape if you want it to do so. But it’s usually best for beach garden to stand out on its own and not get lost in the mix of your landscaping plants. In fact, some people like to use a simple container or just push the soil into a raised bed and plant directly into the ground (if they don’t have rocks around that they can take advantage of).

Q: When to Plant Beach Garden?

A: You can plant your beach garden at any time of the year. It just might take a little longer if you wait until summer and autumn. In fact, it’s even better to plant it during those times of the year since the darkening skies will help keep your plants cooler.

Q: What Makes a Beach Garden Grow?

A: It’s another good question – and I think that you are trying to understand what makes these plants grow in the first place, aren’t you? Well, plants need sunlight, water, and nutrients to live. If they don’t have any of those things, then they won’t survive.

Q: Who Created Beach Garden?

A: That’s a very good question, and I think that you are wondering who made the concept of beach garden in the first place. Well, I don’t know who created beach garden in the first place, but I’ve seen a lot of people write about it on Instagram and other websites. A famous YouTuber (?) called “Wild Things” has even made an educational video about it as well as another popular YouTuber whose name escapes me at the moment. There are also books which describe different types of beach garden (with pictures), so if you really want to collect a variety of information then that is what you should be doing.
