When it comes to decorating our garden tub, we seem to always focus on the skimpier and sexier parts of our bodies like for example nails. This is not where your creativity should end, though. For those of you who don’t want to spend too much money or time on decoration but still want a gorgeous view that you can brag about to the neighbors, these 10 garden tub decorating ideas should be right up your alley.
The first step: make sure you have a garden tub first. A Garden tub is any tub that has a drain, meaning, it’s meant for the bath. Most people have one of these already, but if you don’t have one, you can either buy one on Amazon, go to your local home improvement store, or visit a site like Target.
Now that you have your garden tub ready for decorating, you’ll want to make sure that it is clean and empty before starting any of the following ideas.
1). Start with your mood board
If you’re like me, you’ve probably got tons of pictures of what you want to achieve. This is made time-consuming when you start to add up the cost of buying the supplies that go along with each item and the time it’ll take to complete it all. To stop this from happening and give your ideas a jump start, create a mood board using pictures of items that you already own or things that inspire you.
2). Spray paint your tub white
While this may be the most expensive step in the process, it’s one of the simplest. Although I know you can buy tubs already in white, it’s much better to go with the original color of the tub because when it comes to housewarming or wedding parties, you can use whatever colors you want without having to worry about painting over your brand new paint job.
3). Make a star
Using the same technique as creating a community sign for your house, you can create a star on the tub that you can grace with whatever color and designs that you want. To follow the project your instructions are :
- Step 1. Cut out six stars from green card stock paper.
- Step 2. Trace the stars onto the inside of the tub.
- Step 3. Paste two stars to one side of the tub and two to the other side of the tub for each star you cut out in step 1. Then, once they are completely dry, glue them in place on both sides of your tub with construction glue and allow to dry completely before using them as guidelines for your paint job in step 4 and 5 below.
- Step 4. Paint the stars with the color of your choice.
- Step 5. Mix up a tub of paint using 16 ounces of white paint and 1 ounce of black paint for each side of the tub.
- Step 6. Paint over the stars and let dry completely before adding any designs to match your mood board.
4). Paint armor with glitter glue
This is another simple project that you can accomplish that does not cost a lot or take very long to complete. To continue the project, follow the instructions below:
- Step 1. Cut out armor from green paper and put one on each side of your tub.
- Step 2. After the armor is dry, make a mixture of glitter glue and water and cover the armor with it.
- Step 3. Place a light behind the tub and shine it through the bubbles to make them glow.
- Step 4. When you are finished, you can also add some glitter around the sides of the tub.
5). Glue seashells into your tub
Seashells are another inexpensive decoration for your garden tub that gives it that beachy feel without having to leave your backyard or spend tons of money on decorations. You can decorate your tub using regular seashells or make one like mine using Glow in the Dark Seashells (that you can get at most craft stores).
To make this project even easier, follow these instructions:
- Step 1. To make this project even easier, buy glow-in-the-dark paint and divide it evenly amongst four bowls.
- Step 2. Light one bowl of the paint on fire, wait until it burns out, then add the spray paint.
- Step 3. Apply the glow-in-the-dark paint on each side of the tub using a brush or putty knife to make sure you get all of the places you can’t reach yourself.
- Step 4. Once dry, remove the glow-in-the-dark paint with soap and water and make sure to rinse thoroughly to get any excess bleach that could be on your tub.
After this project is completely dry, you can then cut patterns into it with paper or draw designs on it with crayons, chalk, etc.
- Step 5. Decorate your garden tub with seashells.
- Step 6. Put a set of the glow-in-the-dark seashells on each side of the tub and then put a little bit of paint behind the glow-in-the-dark seashells, let dry completely, and then add a design to match your mood board or what you desire at this point.
- Step 7. You can add more glow in the dark paint to make them even brighter if desired, but be sure to do so outside of where your children will be able to get to them because they may get on fire and lose all of their glow if they come in contact with them too often.
6). Paint rainbow stripes on your tub
The project requires three gallons of paint and is probably the most time-consuming and expensive project that you can do. The instructions to follow in order to paint yourself a rainbow tub:
- Step 1. While the paint is still wet, add stripes of glitter glue on top using a brush or paper towel.
Once you’ve gotten all of your desired colors on your tub, you will want to add designs (i.e. swirls, hearts, peace signs, etc.) in order to match your mood board or whoever’s birthday it is that you’re decorating for.
- Step 2. Write something personal with a marker pen and tear it off afterward. Step 3. After you’ve completed all of these steps, let the paint dry completely so that it doesn’t get moldy.
After you have painted your tub, whether it be with white or any other color, you can then go to the Dollar Store and buy inexpensive things that are shaped like stars and just glue them onto your tub for a completed look.
Continue To follow the project your steps are :
- Step 1. Glue stars onto the bottom of the tub using construction glue (I used gold because I wanted my tub to be silver, but if you choose black for this project, go ahead and use it).
- Step 2. For the writing, draw a heart shape on the writing page.
- Step 3. Cut out the heart shape with scissors.
- Step 4. Glue the hearts onto your tub using construction glue.
- Step 5. The last step is to add crayons or markers that have colors that match your mood board to decorate your tub for an inexpensive housewarming gift!
Create a community sign for your front door using paint and glue. This can be done with any of the color choices of paint you are able to find at any dollar store, but remember to use glitter glue because it will be what gives it its “glow”.
7). Make a sign using vinyl letters and paint trays
To do it, you need to follow these steps:
- Step 1. Cut out letters from the white vinyl and peel the backing off of one side.
- Step 2. Using a paint tray, fill with paint and place your letters in it face down (so that the sticky side is touching the tray).
- Step 3. Allow to dry completely, then add glitter glue to dried paint for extra sparkle and shine!
Also. Create a banner out of scrapbook paper and If you want to make things look more “beachy,” you can also add items like shells and candles to make it look like a tropical paradise
8). Add river rocks or pebbles
Using different types of stones will add a level of variation to your decorating which will make it stand out from other garden tubs. This is especially true if you’re trying to display items like photos or other decorative items which might be hard to see due to their size or shape.
9). Add your own creative touches to the inside of the tub
To do this you need to get creative with the items that you have. Using some colored duct tape or even cracking open some type of spray paint, you can create a design that will represent who you are on the inside.
10). Gold glitter skin
This seems like it might be very hard to do, but in reality, is quite simple. You’ll probably get dirty doing this, but if you get into the bathtub while still wet and run your hands through any cluttered drawers full of glitter, you can coat your fingers in sparkles and then draw on your skin with soap, which will make it difficult for any of them to wash away.
